Who Can Apply from the UK?
Legal status in the UK: Passports, travel documents and residence cards must have a validity of at least three months beyond the last day of your trip in the Schengen Area.

Your Sweden application should be submitted using the Sweden e-application portal.
Once your application is submitted on the online portal and the document upload process is completed, you will:
Be provided the option to book an appointment on the online portal so that you can give your biometrics at VFS and submit your passport or;
If you have given your biometrics previously for a Schengen visa withing the last 59 months, you may mail-in your passport or drop your passport to VFS in person during opening hours.
Note
Biometrics given for a Residence permit or D visa or a refusal cannot be reused for a Schengen Visa.
If a minor (customers under the age of 18) is applying, the customer must attend the VFS center with both the parents. Postal application will not be accepted in these cases. </aside>
General requirements for all applicants
Application form Completed & signed application form, in English (form no. 119031) or Swedish (form no. 118031).
Passport photo (only applicable for applicants who have had their biometrical data collected for a Schengen visa within the past 59 months and applicants below 12 years old).
One passport size photo. The photo must be:
Full face (facing the camera directly with the eyes looking straight at the camera);
In colour with a light background;
No more than six months old and resemble the applicant;
The applicant must be bareheaded, unless there are special religious reasons.
Passport/Travel document A passport/travel document, including a copy of the page with the personal data and period validity. The passport should be valid for at least three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area and have at least two blank pages.
Residence permit in the United Kingdom Residence permit card and a copy of both sides. The residence permit card should be valid for at least one month beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen area. The original residence permit card should be presented when submitting the visa application.
Travel medical insurance Medical insurance valid for all Schengen states and covering any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgency medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay (no original needed). The minimum coverage must be 30 000 EUR and the insurance must cover the entire duration of stay in the Schengen area (only first visit if applying for a visa with multiple entries).
Transportation Proof of reserved return ticket to the United Kingdom, or proof of onward travel (if not returning to the United Kingdom), such as authorisation of entry into the country of destination, confirmed overseas ticket or proof of sufficient means to cover such costs.
Accomodation Proof of accomodation or of sufficient means to cover the costs of accomodation. If relevant, such proof may be given through a proof of sponsorship by means of the official form “Invitation – Before application for a Schengen visa”, form no. 241011 (English) or form no. 240011 (Swedish).
Bank statement Nominative United Kingdom bank account statements or credit card(s) and credit card account statement indicating the cardholder’s name and address (the statement must contain information on the monthly limit or the spending cap), covering at least the last three months and showing the balance.
Financial support by someone other than the applicant
If the applicant is financially supported by:
His/her spouse:
A marriage certificate.
The spouse’s bank account statements covering at least the three last months and showing the balance.
A statement of will to support the spouse.
His/her parent(s):
Proof of family relationship, e.g. birth certificate.
The parent(s) bank account statement covering at least the three last months and showing the balance.
A statement of will to support the applicant.
Documents to be submitted depending on the applicant’s occupation
For employees:
Recent, official and signed letter from their employer with name, date of issue, address, contact details, position of signatory and registration number in the United Kingdom. The position and salary of the employee should also be indicated.
Pay slips for the last three months.
For unemployed, pensioners etc.:
Any other proof of establishment in the country of residence, e.g. proof of family ties, proof of regular income etc.
For self-employed:
Recent, official and signed letter from an accountant, banker or solicitor with name, date of issue, address, contact details, position of signatory and registration number in the United Kingdom, stating the nature of the self-employment or business ownership in the United Kingdom. The letter must also state the annual salary drawn from the company.
Self-assessment form edited by revenue and customs authorities.
For students:
Recent, official and signed letter from school, college or university in the United Kingdom stating date of issue, name of the applicant, type of studies, number of lessons (hours) per week and attendance record.
For minors (children below 18 years):
A birth certificate.
For minors travelling alone or with only one parent:
Original passports of both parents, or certified copy of the biodata page of the passports.
Proof of consent of parental authority or legal guardian.
British school certificate
If applicable, documents to prove that only one parent has the sole custody such as birth certificate mentioning one parent, death certificate of absent parent, or court ruling.
Documents to be submitted depending on the purpose of travel
Business:
An invitation from a firm or an authority to attend meetings, conferences, or proof of registration for events connected with trade, industry or work;
other documents that show the existence of trade relations or relations for work purposes; or
entry tickets or registration for fairs and congresses.
Study or professional training:
A certificate of enrolment at an educational establishment (school, university, college, etc.) for the purposes of attending vocational or theoretical courses for basic and further training;
student card or certificate of the courses to be attended;
documents in relation to accommodation, or proof of sufficient means to cover the accommodation; and
internship agreement, if relevant.
Tourism:
Confirmed hotel booking for the full stay in the territory of a Member State or proof of sufficient means to cover accommodation during the intended stay; or
booking confirmation of a tour or any other appropriate document, such as the list of persons taking part in the tour.
Family/Friend visit:
Copy of the biodata page of the passport/national identification card of the host in the Member State, and if applicable, copy of the host’s residence permit;
proof of (family) relationship; and
Completed and signed invitation form (“Invitation – Before application for a Schengen visa, form no. 241011 [English] or form no. 240011 [Swedish] with relevant attachments).
Medical treatment:
An official document of the medical institution confirming the necessity of medical care in that institution;
proof of pre-payment of medical treatment; or
proof of sufficient financial means to pay for the entire medical treatment.

Processing Time
Once your passport is received at VFS, it is dispatched to the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden for processing. Note that international shipping can take documents 3-5 working days to reach Sweden and addition 3-5 working days, return to the UK.
You can apply 6 months in advance for a Schengen visa and it is strongly advisable to apply 1 month in advance so that you meet processing timelines and accommodate the transportation timeframes.
The application processing begins once the passport has physically reached the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden. The minimum processing time for the application at the Swedish Migration Agency is 15 calendar days and can sometimes take longer.
