Who Can Apply from the UAE?

The applicant must be a resident of the UAE. You can apply for a Schengen visa from any city that has a VFS visa center. Where your Emirates ID was issued doesn't matter.

Documents Required

Schengen visa application form shall be duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant. Please check the visa application photo requirements on the website.

Travel document

Passport / valid travel document and one photocopy of ID page. Passport / travel document must be valid for a minimum of 3 months after the planned journey, issued within the previous 10 years and have at least 2 blank pages. To see travel documents accepted by Finland, please see.

Travel medical insurance

Travel medical insurance must be valid for the duration of travel and cover the entire Schengen area. An applicant for a multiple-entry visa may provide an insurance policy, which is valid during the first trip. The minimum coverage of the policy must be 30 000 (thirty thousand) euros. The policy has to cover costs in case of sudden illness or accident and assistance on site, including the costs of medical repatriation to the place of permanent residence of the insured person or the repatriation in case of death.

Documents confirming the purpose of the journey

Transport reservations `Flight reservation(s), including the following:

  • to and from Schengen-area / Finland

  • domestic transport in Finland, if applicable

  • a free-form travel plan to other Schengen countries during your stay, if applicable.`

Proof of accommodation `Tourism:

  • Accommodation reservations. Reservations must be valid throughout the entire visa application procedure.`

Invitation letter `Visiting family or friends:

  • Invitation letter from the host in Finland; dated and signed by the host, specifies the purpose and duration of visit, detailed information of the inviter (full name, address in Finland) and invited person(full name, d.o.b. passport number), specifies the nature of the relation: friend/spouse/family member etc., copy of inviter's passport data page and/or Finnish residence permit (if not Finnish citizen) and information on accommodation provided.

  • Invitation letter is valid 3 months from its signature date.

If necessary, a proof of sponsorship with its attachments.

  • Letter from the employer which is not more than one month old: headed letter with name, date of issue, address, telephone number and position of signatory, including information of monthly amount of salary, start date of employment and position at the company.

  • Multiple entry request cases the employer must request and explain the need for multiple entry visa and state the time it is requested for.

  • Self-employed should present an evidence of business ownership (trade licence) in the United Arab Emirates.`

Proof of financial means (Bank account sheets):

  • Applicant's recent (last three months) bank account sheets. Account sheets must be originals and signed/stamped by the bank.

Persons with no occupation:

  • Proof of socioeconomical situation of the person who supports you financially; work contract, pay slips for the past 3 months, bank statement for the past 3 months`

Documents for third country citizens Valid UAE residence permit or for GCC citizens, UAE ID card. Permit/card must be valid for three months after the departure from the Schengen area.

Documents for minors

Birth certificate Birth certificate and translation to English/Finnish/Swedish, if applicable

Documents when parent(s)/guardian(s) not travelling together with the child `Minors travelling without their parents/legal guardian:

  • birth certificate

  • original consent letter signed by their parents/legal guardian in front of a visa officer or duly legalized and copy of passport(s) of parents/legal guardian.`

The processing time of a visa application is 15 days, but can take longer if the application is not complete. The Embassy may request further documentation and information or you may be called for an interview which can prolong the processing time. Please note that as per the Article 23 of Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a Community code on Visas (Visa Code) the period of consideration of your visa application by the respective Consular authority may be extended up to a maximum of 45 calendar days in individual cases, notably when more detailed examination of the application is needed.
