An empty calendar usually does not mean there are no appointments. It means the last ones released were taken before you looked. Dates are released without a schedule and are usually gone within minutes. This plan goes through what actually gets people a date from the UAE, in order.
1. Why the calendar is empty: a timing problem, not a supply problem
Visa centres do not drip appointments out evenly. Dates appear at irregular times, and on a busy route a new date is booked within a minute. If you look at 3 pm you see an empty calendar and conclude there is nothing; what you are seeing is the gap between releases. The people who get appointments are usually the ones who were told the moment one appeared.
2. Know which system your destination uses from the UAE
Schengen appointments from the UAE run on VFS Global, each with its own calendar and account. If you have been checking the wrong site, the calendar was never going to fill. Visard covers 13 destinations from the UAE: Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden.
| System | Destinations from the UAE | Centres |
|---|---|---|
| VFS Global | Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden | Dubai and Abu Dhabi |
3. Apply to the right country: the main-destination rule
You apply to the country where you will spend the most nights; if nights are equal, the country you enter first. An application to a country you will not mainly visit is refused, and the fee is not returned. Changing destination only helps when your itinerary genuinely changes with it.
4. Check every centre in the UAE
Availability is not synchronised between centres and each one is assigned by where you live; ask the consulate before you book outside your jurisdiction.
Dubai
The busiest centre and by far the most applicants. Every destination Visard covers from the UAE is served here.
Abu Dhabi
Fewer dates and fewer people. Availability is not synchronised with Dubai; Visard tracks it separately.
