Why refreshing the visa centre page misses slots

A released slot does not wait for you to look. Refreshing by hand only works if you happen to check in the same minute a slot opens. A Schengen visa appointment bot turns that around: the calendar is watched for you, and the slot comes to your phone. You can also compare the alert services by provider and evidence.

Comparison of notifications and auto-booking: with notifications you book the appointment yourself, from £35 for one destination or £65 for all 20; with auto-booking Visard books it, £100 for the first applicant and £50 for each additional, paid only after the appointment is confirmed.

Visard checks visa centre calendars every 3 seconds and sends alerts in under a second. On a busy route, that second is often the whole margin between seeing a slot and getting it.

When notifications are enough

  • Your travel dates can move by a week or more.
  • You can open the visa centre website within a minute of an alert for most of the day.
  • You are applying for Italy, Spain or Switzerland from the UK. These three routes are notifications only on Visard today. See how alerts work for a Spain visa appointment from the UK.
  • You are travelling as a group and want one price for everyone.

If that describes you, start with one destination at £35. Upgrade only if you find yourself missing slots.

When auto-booking is worth the fee

  • Your dates are fixed: a wedding, a conference, a school holiday.
  • You work shifts or sit in meetings, so a one-minute window is not realistic.
  • Your destination is one of the 17 UK routes where Visard offers auto-booking.

The Visard fee is charged only after your appointment is confirmed. If no appointment is booked, you do not pay the Visard fee.

Can you still check VFS while auto-booking is running?

Yes. You can keep looking yourself if you want. Where auto-booking is available, Visard searches and books for you, so you do not have to keep refreshing the calendar. Check which service your route supports, because notifications and auto-booking work differently.

What a family of four pays

With auto-booking, the Visard fee for four applicants is £100 + £50 + £50 + £50 = £250. It is charged once the appointments are confirmed.

With notifications, one subscription covers all four people: £35 for one destination.

So groups usually lean towards notifications. The exception is fixed dates, where missing a slot costs more than the fee.

Can one VFS appointment cover your whole family?

No. Each applicant needs a confirmed booking, children included. Booking separately may show more options. If you choose the same day, check with your centre whether everyone can attend together at the earliest time.

What neither service changes

The visa centre's own process still applies. You attend in person to give your fingerprints and photo, and the visa centre's fee is separate from the Visard fee.

Some countries have also changed how they hand out appointments. From 1 June 2026, the German Embassy allocates short-stay appointments in London and Manchester through a first-come waiting list run by TLScontact. Visard does not currently cover Germany or France from the UK.

Before you pay for any appointment service, check that your destination is covered. Visard's page for Schengen visa appointments in the UK lists every route and which service it supports. Read Is your VFS or BLS account at risk? before sharing booking details.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to share my passport details?

For notifications, no. You book the slot yourself on the visa centre website. For auto-booking, Visard needs the applicant details the visa centre asks for, because it books the appointment in your name.

What happens if auto-booking cannot find a slot?

You do not pay the Visard fee. It is charged only after your appointment is confirmed.

Which UK routes offer auto-booking?

Visard covers 20 destinations from the UK. Auto-booking is available on 17 of them. Italy, Spain and Switzerland are notifications only. Germany and France are not currently covered from the UK.
