Neither the Czech Republic nor Norway lists a Manchester centre: a Czech appointment means travelling to London, and a Norwegian one means London or Edinburgh.

Where the Manchester centres are

Ten of the destinations share one building. VFS Global's pages for Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland all give the same address, 50 Devonshire Street North, Manchester M12 6JH, and GVCworld lists the same street for Greece.

France, Germany and Belgium use a different building: the TLScontact centre at 1 Portland Street, Manchester M1 3BE. Spain's centre is in a third building, run by BLS International at Unit 1, 205 Chapel Street, Salford M3 5PF, with its own booking site.

Opening hours differ by destination even inside the same building. VFS Global lists separate hours for each destination's desk, and some close in the early afternoon. Check the page for your destination before you travel.

Who can apply in Manchester

France says UK residents can apply at any of its three centres because there is no consular area, and the Netherlands accepts UK residents at any of its UK centres.

For Germany and Spain, your home address decides which centre you can use.

  • Germany. The German Missions in the UK say the London and Manchester centres serve residents of England (with some exceptions), Wales and Northern Ireland, while residents of Scotland apply in Edinburgh.
  • Spain. BLS International says an application from outside a consulate's area will not be accepted. The Spanish consulate in Manchester covers Wales, the Isle of Man, the North West except Cumbria, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the East and West Midlands. Pick your county on the BLS site to confirm before you book.

What Manchester changes about timing

Applying in Manchester can add courier time to London and back. Finland's page on VFS Global, for example, says applications made in Manchester or Edinburgh need extra days for the courier to London and back.

The Visa Code sets the decision period itself at 15 calendar days from an admissible application, extendable to 45 in individual cases (Regulation (EC) No 810/2009, Article 23). Book early enough that transport and processing both fit before your trip.

How to get a Manchester appointment when the calendar is empty

  1. Confirm that your destination has a Manchester centre, using the table above or the official page.
  2. Check whether you can also apply in London or Edinburgh for the same destination.
  3. Have your documents and the online form ready before you look for a date.
  4. Set an alert for your destination and centre, for example Spain visa appointment alerts, Swiss visa appointments, Cyprus visa appointments or Finland visa appointment alerts, and open the booking page as soon as it arrives.

Visard, a Schengen visa bot, checks VFS Global, TLScontact and BLS every 3 seconds for the destinations it covers. In Visard's Telegram bot you choose the service, destination, city and visa type. When a slot opens, Visard sends a Telegram alert in under a second.

Notifications cost £35 for one destination or £65 for all covered UK destinations, for 31 days with no automatic renewal. France, Germany, Greece and Belgium are not covered by Visard from the UK. See the UK destinations Visard covers.

Manchester, London or Edinburgh

If you can apply in more than one city, compare the journey to each centre and the dates on offer. Check which destinations accept applications in London and Edinburgh. For Spain, see Spain visa processing time from the UK.
